We respect your Privacy as we administer the Seanad Éireann electoral register for degree holders from designated institutions. This Privacy Notice applies to both online and paper-based applications. The SeanadVoter.ie website is administered by the National University of Ireland in our role as Central Registration Authority, which is a function assigned, under the Seanad Electoral (University Members) (Amendment) Act 2024.

There is a free form section to assist with qualification verification (optional). Please do not enter any personal or sensitive information into this section.
Information you provide will be encrypted and hosted within a secure cloud-based environment (within the EU). The required information will be stored for future electoral events or on-going administration, audit and review. Any documentation that is provided for verification purposes, such as a passport, will be retained until your application is processed and then securely deleted at the end of your application cycle.

We would always encourage you to let us know if any information we hold on you is incorrect or out of date.
We will acknowledge and act upon your request without delay. If at any time we cannot oblige, due to legal or contractual reasons, we will explain this to you. If you wish to have your information removed from the next published register you can do so by contacting us on applications@SeanadVoter.ie. Your details and a copy of your request will be retained on the system, but your name will not appear on the published register.
To ensure we process your application efficiently and to verify your qualification, we will share relevant details (name, address, date of birth, qualification, student number, and PPSN- only if verification is required) with the educational institution responsible for holding your records. This may be a successor institution, parent awarding body, or more than one institution where records are held jointly, which may differ from the institution you indicated on your application. This sharing occurs solely for verification purposes.
We will engage specialist service providers to ensure the effective operation of the postal ballot, which will include mail fulfilment companies and An Post. Statistical information (such as number of applications) may be shared with the Department of Housing, Local Government & Heritage or Electoral Commission for reporting or research purposes.
No personal information will be shared. In all events, as the data controller, we will implement appropriate agreements and conduct due diligence to ensure a mutual commitment to data protection and security. The Seanad Electoral (University Members) (Amendment) Act 2024 sets out the legal basis for sharing data with other designated institutions, the Minister for Social Protection (to cross-check your PPSN for identity purposes) and any Minister of the Government or specified public body (for example An tArd-Chláraitheoir – in connection with death events), where it is necessary and proportionate, including to verify the accuracy of a claim and to identify duplicates.
This notice was first produced in November 2024. It was revised in April 2025 and June 2026. We may occasionally update this Privacy Statement. We encourage you to periodically review this policy for the latest information on our privacy practices. The Privacy Notice will specify the latest date on which the terms have been amended.
